Fundus photograph with and without red-free filter demonstrating advanced nonexudative ARMD with geographic atrophy (defined as RPE atrophy at least 175 microns in diameter). Photography with the red free filter (right panel) accentuates the atrophy of the choriocapillaris, which reveals the intact deeper, larger choroidal vessels. Temporal drusen are still evident in areas of the macula overlying intact retinal pigment epithelium, whereas they have faded or have been resorbed in areas of geographic atrophy.
